Puppy’s First Groom

A gentle, stress-free introduction to grooming for puppies, including a light trim, bath, nail trimming, and extra care to ensure a positive experience.

At From Shaggy to Chic, the “Puppy’s First Groom” experience is thoughtfully designed to introduce your young companion to the world of grooming in the most gentle, reassuring way possible. This isn’t just a service, it’s a carefully guided first step that helps shape how your puppy will feel about grooming for the rest of their life.

Understanding that puppies are naturally curious but can also be sensitive to new environments, our expert groomers prioritize comfort, patience, and positive reinforcement. Each session begins with a calm meet-and-greet, allowing your puppy to explore the space, become familiar with new scents and sounds, and build trust with their groomer. This foundational step helps reduce anxiety and sets the tone for a relaxed experience.

The grooming process itself is intentionally light and non-invasive. Rather than a full groom, the Puppy’s First Groom focuses on introducing essential elements in a gradual, stress-free manner. This includes a warm, gentle bath using premium, puppy-safe shampoos that nourish delicate skin and coat. The soft hum of dryers is introduced slowly, ensuring your puppy is never overwhelmed. Nail trimming, ear cleaning, and a light brush-out are all performed with extra care and plenty of breaks, treats, and praise.

What sets From Shaggy to Chic apart is the attention to emotional well-being. Groomers are trained not only in technical skill but also in puppy behavior, allowing them to read cues and adjust their approach accordingly. If a puppy shows signs of nervousness, the session is paced accordingly we never rush or force anything. The goal is to create a positive association so that future grooming visits feel familiar and safe.

Owners also benefit from this experience. During pickup, groomers provide helpful guidance on at-home care, brushing techniques, and tips for maintaining your puppy’s coat between visits. This education empowers pet parents to continue reinforcing positive grooming habits at home.

The Puppy’s First Groom is more than just a tidy-up, it’s an investment in your dog’s long-term comfort and confidence. By starting early with a nurturing, luxury experience, From Shaggy to Chic ensures that every puppy leaves not only looking adorable but feeling secure, happy, and ready for a lifetime of stress-free grooming.

At From Shaggy to Chic, we also believe in fostering open communication with pet owners, ensuring you are informed and confident in the grooming process.

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers

We love our pets, and want to show that same level of care to yours. If you have any questions that we don't answer here - feel free to reach out directly!
What vaccinations are required for boarding or grooming?

We require all dogs to be up-to-date on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DHLPP), and Bordetella. Proof of vaccination is needed before your pet can be groomed or boarded to ensure the safety and health of all animals in our care.

Do you offer tours of your boarding facility?

Yes! We encourage all pet parents to tour our facility. Tours can be scheduled during business hours so you can see where your dog will play, sleep, and relax.

How often will my dog go outside or get exercise during boarding?

Dogs are let out regularly throughout the day for bathroom breaks and playtime. We offer structured activities, including walks, group play (for social dogs), or one-on-one enrichment based on your dog’s needs.

Can I bring my dog’s food, toys, or bedding from home?

Absolutely. We recommend bringing your dog’s own food to avoid stomach upset. You’re also welcome to bring familiar bedding or toys—just label them clearly with your dog’s name.

What grooming services do you offer?

We provide full-service grooming including baths, haircuts, de-shedding, nail trimming/grinding, ear cleaning, anal gland expression (upon request), and breed-specific styling. Spa add-ons like teeth brushing and specialty shampoos are also available.

How long does the grooming process take?

Most grooming appointments take 2–4 hours depending on the dog’s breed, coat condition, and service level. We’ll call or text as soon as your dog is ready for pickup.

Do you groom dogs with special needs, elderly dogs, or anxious dogs?

Yes. Our groomers are trained to work with dogs of all temperaments and health needs. We take extra time and care to keep nervous or senior pups comfortable and will adjust the groom as needed for safety.

What happens if my dog becomes stressed or aggressive during grooming?

Safety is our top priority. If your dog becomes overly anxious or stressed, we may slow down, take breaks, or modify the service. In rare cases, we may stop the grooming session and discuss options with you.

Do you offer updates or photos while my dog is boarding?

Yes! We’re happy to send photo or video updates so you can see how your dog is doing. Just let us know your preferred method of communication.
